Overview
Plant biology research is experiencing a revolution with the introduction of genome editing technologies that allow fast and efficient genetic changes. PGE is born to support the genome editing experiments in terms of
- Experiment design
- Cell cultures and Transformation
- Transformants isolation and Genotyping
- DNA EXTRACTION from different plant samples
- Plants cultivation
- Phenotyping
- Maintenance of collections of lines / plants / material.
Facility Manager
Prof. Tomas Morosinotto
Staff
Full time: Alessandra Bellan
Part Time: Elisabetta Barizza, Luca Cesarotto, Stefania Marcato, Anna Pavanello, Anna Segalla
Instruments:
- Cell culture and plant cultivation: 9 growth chambers with different illumination / temperature / humidity and light regime;
- Transformation: particle gun from Beambio and electroporator from ECM® 630 Electroporator;
- Phenotyping: Fluorcam from Photon System Instruments (closed and open), stereomicroscope with camera;
Activities:
- Experimental design for genome editing approaches (ex. support in guide RNA design)
- Set up of DNA extraction protocols from plant samples (also critical ones, rich of phenols etc)
- Training to use the instruments available for transformation and phenotyping
- Management and maintenance of the growth chambers entrusted to the facility
- Experimental Greenhouse Management
- Plant growing support
- Maintenanceof solid plant cell cultures, lines of plants, collecting seeds ex Arabidopsis
- Maintenance of algae / cyanobacteria strains collection
