Curriculum
Stefano Cagnin, born in Camposampiero (PD), the 13th of January 1974. Degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Padova with the dissertation: "Development of a cDNA microarray to analyze gene expression profiles in LGMD2B patients” (110/110 cum laude). Formation: 2000-2003 Experimental work in the group of Professor G. Lanfranchi (Dept. Biology, University of Padova); 2003 Dept. Biology of Universi ty of Padova Telethon Fellowship; 2004-2006 PhD student fellowship; 2007 PhD degree in Biotechnology at the University of Padova with the dissertation: “Gene expression profiles in dystrophic muscle and technological improvements in the DNA detection” 1/1/2007-31/12/2008 Research fellow (biennal contract) of Dept. Biology of University of Padova; 1/1/2009-31/12-2010 Renewal of the research fellow (biennal contract) of Dept. Biology of University of Padova; 1/2/2011-1/2/2012 New research fellow (one year contract) of Dept. of Human Anatomy and Physiology of University of Padova. 14/5/2012 – today Dept. of Biology, University of Padova. Tenured Research Scientist. Research activity Development and application of the microarray technology. I have developed and analyzed cDNA and oligonucleotides microarrays to define the gene expression profiling of dystrophic skeletal muscle (limb girdle muscular dystrophy type 2A and type 2B (LGMD2A and LGMD2B) and facio scapulo humeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and of trouble in cardiovascular system. Moreover, I have developed a new electronic device to detect DNA hybridization kinetics. I developed new bioinformatic approaches to improve the meta analysis of gene expression data and applied them to define antigenic signature in patients affected by chronic inflammation in skeletal muscle tissue. During last five years I become interested in miRNAs activity. I developed a new technique to detect gene expression of micro RNAs and applied it to detect micro RNA expression in culture cells used to resemble different types of rhabdomyosarcoma. Using a genome wide approach I identified different micro RNAs expressed in Sus scrofa tissues characterizing their function. Moreover, I discovered the function of miRNAs in skeletal muscle atrophy and metabolism. Recently, I was involved in the analysis of the function of long non-coding RNAs demonstrating their importance in tumors.
