Curriculum
Salvatore Novello joined UNIPD in 2023 as Ricercatore a tempo determinato A in Physiology in the Genetic and Behavior Unit at DiBio. In 2019, he obtained a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Ferrara in collaboration with the Institute of Maladie Neurodegeneratives at University of Bordeaux (Bordeaux, France) in Dr. Erwan Bezard’s laboratory studying the interaction of genetic and environmental factors in Parkinson’s Disease. During his Ph.D., he also did an internship at the National Institute of Health (Bethesda, USA) in Mark Cookson’s laboratory to assess the impact of alpha-synuclein in Parkinson’s Disease cellular models and at MOTAC laboratories in Beijing (Beijing, China) where he supervised the setup of a microdialysis facility for the detection of molecules in animal models of Parkinson’s Disease. He completed his postdoctoral training from 2019 to 2023 at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) in the laboratory of Hilal Lashuel, studying the biochemical properties of alpha-synuclein aggregates. He was invited to present his work in conference talks at the LRRK2 Biochemical Society Meeting 2016, Neuroscience meeting 2017 in Washington, and Swiss Neuroscience Foundation meeting 2023. Dr. Novello’s scientific contribution to the field of neurodegeneration and protein aggregation include several publications in major peer reviewed journals including npj Parkinson’s Disease, CDD, Function, Neurobiology of Disease, Science Advances, and Acta Neuropathologica Communications
