Curriculum

I have a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, a Master’s course in Bioinformatics and a PhD in Biosciences and Biotechnologies, curriculum of Genetics and Developmental Molecular Biology. Before my current position of Assistant Professor in Applied Biology at Biology Department in The University of Padua, I had more than ten years of research experience, two of them as a research fellow for two EU networks of excellence, where I had the opportunity to work with a very large, collaborative and interdisciplinary research groups focused on the development of novel immunotherapies. During my PhD in Bioscience and Biotechnology at The University of Padova and my postdoc years, I investigated many aspects of cancer genomics and transcriptomics leading to several key publications in the field of computational pathway analysis and cancer biology. I was the successful recipient of multiple grants, Individual AIRC fellowship in 2014, 3-year CARIPLO grant for young researchers (2016-2019) and EMBO fellowship in 2019 when I perfected the single-cell data analyses in the Systems Biology of Drug Resistance in Cancer group led by Prof. Hautaniemi at The University of Helsinki, who is coordinator of EU H2020 project dedicated to the multi-omic study of ovarian cancer. Currently, I’m running my own lab at the Department of Biology at University of Padova supported by a My First AIRC grant (2020-2025) to investigate the cell-cell crosstalk dynamics during ovarian cancer progression before and after chemotherapy using single-cell sequencing. I’m an author of more than 30 papers in peer-reviewed high-impact journals.

Research area

I have the interest in contributing to the computational biology field, both in the development of bioinformatics tools both to perform studies in which a specific biological problem is solved using bioinformatics. During my studies I always had the study of cell signaling deregulations in human diseases as a guiding thread.

Proposals for thesis

The research proposals for thesis projects are in the field of bioinformatics. They include the study of specific aspect of cancer biology using bioinformatics tools. In lab we mainly work to provide analyses and interpretations to transcriptomics and genomic cancer data. Previous programming skills are not required but they are welcomed along with a strong interest in bioinformatics.
