The Scientific Commission (SC), appointed by the Director, is composed by professors with proven scientific curriculum and belonging to the various research areas active in the department. The SC assists the Director in the following activities:

• Analysis and evaluation of the research activity of the Department;
• Three-year plan (PTDT) for the recruitment and career advancement of the Department faculty and laboratory technical staff;
• Planning and recruitment of faculty staff by “direct call”;
• Strategic three-year plan for the development of departmental research (PTSR);
• Departmental Project of Excellence;
• Guidelines for the subdivision, evaluation and allocation of the BIRD Fund;
• Evaluation and assignment of PRID "seed" projects and grants;
• DiBio regulation for programming and allocation of resources;
• The SUA-RD card;
• The SCRI-RD review form of departmental research;
• Departmental processes connected to the ANVUR-VQR cycles of evaluation of the university research quality;
• Coordination of the response to the University call for research infrastructures.
